Today was the perfect day to go fishing. Not the hook, line and sinker kind of fishing...that's not my thing...but rather the hop in the car, drive down the highway, and visit the fish market kind of fishing. The end result is the same...fish for dinner.
We're really blessed to have so many choices in fresh seafood readily available and we love it. Having grown up in Kansas, I can't say that we were really fish fans when we first moved here. In fact, we probably lasted less than a minute in the fish market on our first trip many years ago. The distinctive aroma of fresh fish sent us scurrying for the door, holding our noses all the way. On the second trip, we got past the smell and lasted longer but we still left empty handed. We didn't have a clue what to buy...nothing resembled fish sticks. But we finally found our comfort zone and now try to include fresh fish in our menu on a regular basis.
Our favorite fish place is right down on the water where long counters of fish, bins of shrimp, and a host of other seafood awaits. The combination of fishing boats docked right behind the market and a robust crowd reassures us that what we're getting is fresh, and I don't think we've ever been disappointed. The choice today (as it is most often) was grouper that Wayne grilled with just a little butter and Greek seasonings. Grilled vegetables and a roasted red pepper pasta tossed in olive oil and fresh Parmesan cheese made for a tasty and healthy meal.
And since we're right down on the water's edge, we always see pelicans, herons and other waterfowl. This guy felt the same way we did...it was the perfect day for going fishing.
