Feel The Beat
Every generation probably thinks the music they grew up with was the best...but I KNOW mine was. I spent my Friday nights at the local youth center dancing to the Beatles, Chubby Checkers, the Beach Boys, Elvis and others like them. Good ol' rock and roll. Two recent events have reminded me how much I still enjoy this music.
The musical act on Jay Leno the other night was Brian Wilson, one of the original Beach Boys. I had read a couple of articles recently about the release of his new album, That Lucky Old Sun, and Wayne mentioned he had listened to it when the entire album was available online for a short time in a unique pre-release promo. The full album is no longer available but you can hear snippets of the songs here. Even though the song Wilson performed was new, it might as well have been one from the 60s...the beat and harmony were a total throwback to the old Beach Boy songs. His voice may have lost a little of its quality but I couldn't help but smile listening to him, both at the song and the memories.
The smile was even bigger when Wayne forwarded the link for this video. It's part of a musical event honoring Fats Domino filmed in New Orleans in 1987. How cool to see Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis and Fats Domino all performing together on the same stage! Look closely though and you'll see Ronnie Woods(The Rolling Stones), Carl Perkins (Blue Suede Shoes and more) and Paul Shaffer (David Letterman's band director) back when he had hair.
I agree-the 60's music had the beat!:)
