Well, cupcakes anyway. I haven't done much baking since Christmas...the urge just wasn't there after all those holiday cookies, pies and other treats. But the idea of something sweet for Valentine's Day has been rolling around in the old brain all week and I finally had time today to do something about it.
My first thought was something gooey and chocolatey but I ultimately decided on Red Velvet Cupcakes. It's a delicious change of pace and the colorful cake is perfect for Valentine's Day. And at one point in the baking process, my left hand had that same bright red hue after I spilled some of the food coloring on it. Despite the mess, I'm feeling quite the domestic goddess in making cake and icing from scratch.
Kayla called while I was waiting for the cupcakes to cool. I told her I was making red velvet cupcakes and was about to launch into my explanation of what red velvet cake was when she exclaimed Red Velvet! That's my favorite cake! I'd have never guessed.
The cupcakes passed the taste test...well, at least the one Wayne and I administered, so I'll have a sweet treat to pass along to some of my favorite Valentines tomorrow. We can all eat cake.
Brenda your cupcakes look so yummy!

They look delicious! I had to laugh, I have a photo of cupcakes on my blog today ... though, I have to admit, my girlfriend made them for me :) Enjoy your Valentine's day, Brenda!
