I've been reading this evening. Saturday night television is the pits and it's even worse in the summer so I'm winding down by getting lost between the pages of a good book. Tonight's choice? An encyclopedia. Not just any encyclopedia...the Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life. The author paints a verbal self-portrait by capturing moments, observations and emotions in her life, all arranged like entries in an encyclopedia.
With only a cursory glance inside when it arrived, this book has lived in my bookcase for some time. I bought it when it became clear my hopes of taking Cathy Zielske's album track at CKU would never be realized. The very clever Ms. Z had created an entire scrapbook built around this book and was leading a class to share her idea but then she retired from the world of teaching on the road before my schedule allowed me to attend. And while I had intentions of reading the book and coming up with my own album design, it just hasn't happened. It, along with a long list of other great album ideas, languished in the "someday when I have time" category.
But that's going to change. When I saw that Cathy will be teaching this album concept in a class called Me: The Abridged Version, I knew I wanted to sign up. I'm looking forward to the chance to tell my story in little snippets and pieces... me, A to Z. So I'm reading in preparation for the homework and for the class that begins in September. Surely life will be less hectic in September, right? I'm not even going to think twice about it...sign me up.
Life will NOT be less hectic for us in September, but I am still eyeballing CZ's class. Everyone on the LOM message board RAVED about taking her DYL (Design Your Life) class, and I keep putting off "me" pages. Maybe I'll "see" you there...

Oh, BTW, last night we went up our street to put our chairs in the optimum viewing spot for THE STATE'S LARGEST ANNUAL FIREWORKS SHOW (yes, practically in my front yard!) We waited a while for the start time, and as if on cue, when the fireworks started, so did the rain. We sat there a while, hoping it would slack off, but when I could not see though my glasses, we decided to ride the 4=wheeler on home. We saw about half the show. Oh, well...a good story to tell. My 7-year-old thought it was the best night ever.

Oh how I would love to take this class, however I will be helping my daughter who is scheduled for a c-section on Sept 1st and already has a 2 year old running around.
I have been cleaning up my scrap area and came across several page ideas torn from magazines and several have your name on them from 2007. I still plan on using your wonderful inspiration.

Signed up for this during the first few minutes of registration. Love me some Cathy Z! Looks like a fun, fun class. I liked the book quite a bit.
And thanks for the Facebook add...like I said, it was fun to see you over there!

I'm signed up for Cathy's class, too. The Encyclopedia is on its way from Amazon. The tag book is in my purse and slowly filling up with bits and pieces. Now I just have to decide on my favorite color of AC corduroy . . .
Brenda, I'm glad you're signed up. I look forward to learning from you along with Cathy.

I'm in as well. I took Cathy's DYL class and LOVED it and am so excited she is teaching another class. I had heard great things about this class when she was teaching it at CKU. I have my AC corduroy album ready to go, my pattern paper selected, my tag book made and am slowly filling it. I had not read the book but just downloaded it to my Kindle so I can read it on the beach next week. A friend came back into town today and came over to visit and when she saw what this class was going to be about, she immediately sat down at my computer and signed up. It will be fun to work on it together as well as being inspired by everyone who will be in the class. BPS classes are wonderful!
