Wayne plays golf every Tuesday and Thursday with the same group of guys. There are ten or so of them, although rarely everyone shows up on the same day depending on who's in town, who's got something else they have to do and, at this time of year, who's willing to brave the weather. They might not all have started out as good friends but over time they've formed a pretty close relationship. It's a friendly game (the losing team buys Cokes for the winners) but as in all competitions, there's plenty of good-natured harassment going on.
They've been teeing off at 7:30am this summer and that means Wayne heads out of here shortly after 7:00am. It's not that it takes him that long to get there; after all, the golf shop is only three blocks away. But several of them show up early to shoot the breeze before hitting the links so he enjoys just hanging out with the guys. Knowing this group, I suspect there's plenty of harassment going on before the round too.
He's a considerate early-riser...closing the door to the bedroom before turning on any lights, being careful not to make any loud noises and in general doing all that he can to make sure his don't-wake-me-up-yet wife is not disturbed. His efforts are much appreciated too.
Tuesday morning he needed a clean towel for his golf bag so he quietly opened the door to the linen closet, reached in in the dark and grabbed the top one off the stack. A golf towel is a golf towel...right? Without giving it a second glance, on to the bag it went.
The pretty pastels and gingham don't exactly say manly golfer, do they? And he took plenty of grief from his buddies as a result. While I haven't played any golf for a while, I do use these small towels out on the patio from time to time and after laundering them, they go back with the rest of the golf towels...hence, it was on top.
But he played really good golf on Tuesday, and I'm sure the towel deserves some of the credit. We'll see if it stays for another round or is replaced by something that looks more like Wayne come Thursday morning.
