431 Files. Two Folders. 1.87 MB. Oh, sorry...I kinda forgot where I was there for a minute. I've been so used to reciting file data that I can't seem to think in words, only numbers. We've spent hours going through the files on my computer, verifying that the files match what's on the external drives we use for backups and re-copying them when they don't. It's a process made all the more tedious by a computer that moves like molasses...when it runs, that is. And when it crashes, which it does with great regularity, we cross our fingers and say a little prayer as we try to restart it.
We were this closeto having everything copied over when the poor thing shuddered, moaned and died for what seems to be the final time. Only the emails, address book and a set of Photoshop actions didn't make it over to the external drive. All the tricks we've tried before have failed to bring up Windows so now the focus is whether the computer can be brought back from the dead or is it toast.
It's looking more and more like a hard drive failure but we're giving it one last shot. The program that restores to the computer to its fresh-from-the-factory condition is running as we speak but I'm not very optimistic. It spends 99.9% of its time resting and I'm just not sure it can accomplish the job in the .1% that's left. Time will tell.
