Mother's Day greetings are popping up everywhere right now. One of my favorites is by a local grocery store with just a nice love-your-momma message that you can't recognize as a commercial until the name of the store shows up on the television screen at the very end. Far more subtle (and therefore more appealing too, in my opinion) than the inserts in the paper urging readers not to forget Mom on Mother's Day when what they really mean is come in and buy kitchen appliances or jewelry.
So it really shouldn't have come as a surprise when I went to Google something late this evening and the newest Google Doodle is honoring Moms around the world. It's cute. If you haven't seen it, you'll find it here.
Those Google people are clever, aren't they. They're amazing to begin with, what with putting the answer to my every question right at my fingertips in a fraction of a second. I still haven't figured out how they do that but I'm happy to take advantage of it. And it seems I do, often multiple times a day. The clever illustrations add a bit of fun and I regularly scroll over them to find out what occasion is being celebrated in the design. And then sometimes...like Mother's Day...it's pretty obvious.
Ever wonder how those doodles came about? You can find the story of them here. Scroll down to the bottom and you'll find a link to all their past doodles. If nothing more, they're interesting because some are run in other parts of the world and not the USA. And if you're a fan of the animated doodles, Technorati rated the eleven best for 2011 in this article with links to each one. Go ahead...play with them. You know you want to.
I'm not nearly as clever as the Google people but I do want to offer up Mother's Day greetings to all the Moms out there. Enjoy your day!
