One of the few good things about the winter months is that our friends Tom and Durlene leave the cold and snow of Springfield, Missouri, behind and spend January on the beach at Destin. Given the ice and snow that's making its way through Kansas, Missouri and other parts of the Midwest right now, they're probably wishing they were back here. Maybe next year they'll take our suggestion that they need to stay for February too.
The four of us get together as much as possible during that time...to recall old memories, laugh at old jokes and celebrate a friendship that spans more than four decades. And to make some new memories and laugh at new jokes too. Tom is such a funny joke teller, mostly because he gets so tickled at what the punch line is going to be that he can't tell the joke because he's laughing too hard.
His favorite this year was It's been thirteen years since "Who Let The Dogs Out?" and we still don't know the answer. We got a chuckle out of it the first time he told it but we laughed even more the second time, in part because he forgot that he'd told us (it happens to all of us) but mostly because of how he was cracking up. In fact, I'm laughing to myself as I write this thinking of how entertained Tom was at the idea of the joke.
Well, Tom, thanks to the marvels of Facebook, the mystery is solved:
But I don't want to deprive you of the fun of telling your joke...I won't tell anyone.
Did Wayne get to see the Jayhawks last night? All I can say is WOW!
