I can't be the only one who's had their fill of Winter weather and is craving the warm days of Spring. Say what you will about global warming but this seems to be the Winter that never ends.
Sunday was one of those days I've been longing for...sunny, breezy and 82 degrees. I was in heaven! More importantly, I got things done. Trimmed bushes. Washed porches. Cleaned the pool.
Those in my corner of the world who relied on local lore that it never freezes after St. Patrick's Day are likely to be disappointed come morning, especially if they took advantage of Sunday's 82 degrees to set out some new plants. By this time last year the yard was fertilized, the pool deck was power washed and the screens were all cleaned. This year? Nada. We can't get decent weather for more than a day here or there.
And tonight at 10:05pm I was out arranging buckets and blankets on my blueberries to protect them from freezing. Eighty-two on Sunday, thirty on Monday. The weatherman threw me a curve, however, as it wasn't predicted to get that low tonight when I listened last night so I was surprised when the first story on the 10pm news was about a freeze warning. My neighbor's were probably wondering what I was up to with my late night trips around the back yard but my blueberries are now snuggled in for the night.
Those in my corner of the world who relied on local lore that makes St. Patrick's Day as the end of freezing weather and set out plants on Sunday were probably out there with me tonight...only likely not at such a late hour. They probably didn't wait until 10pm to turn on their televisions.
The headlines in my USA Today said this is Winter's last gasp and April is sure to bring warmer weather. It can't get here fast enough to suit me.
