If it seems like everything I'm writing about lately involves the house, that's because our little world is revolving around it right now. Fix it or clean it...that's our life Spring 2013. Ah, the joys of home ownership.
The pool deck is shiny-clean...well, as shiny as concrete can be and Wayne's finished the driveway and sidewalks so they look just as good. He got a little encouragement as he washed the curb and gutter out front when several neighbors driving past gave him a thumbs up for his effort. It does look nice; if only it would stay so clean and white.
My efforts this week are directed at the screened enclosure around the pool. It's amazing how something that's mostly holes can be so dirty and it seems worse than ever this year. I think it's because we had such a rainy year last year so the algae on the screen is really bad.
Nasty, isn't it! Thankfully, it only looks this bad when you see it at an angle. Straight-on you don't see the green...but I know it's there.
One scrub doesn't cut it, even with bleach added to the wash water; it takes a second round. And I've even made up a stronger bleach mix in the sprayer and used it on the worst ones. That's why the pieces of blue tarp are there...to keep this stronger bleach solution off the plants that are growing there.
I must admit this isn't my favorite chore in the springtime job jar. I don't mind the screens themselves, even as dirty as they are but I don't like the overhead portion of the framework. My shoulders and neck are reminding me of just how hard of a job it is.
The good news is all the inside is done...hallelujah! And with rain in the forecast for tomorrow, my aching muscles are going to get a break. Double hallelujah! And since I have only so much control over where all that dirt I'm washing off is going, cleaning the pool is next on the list. I'm not allowing myself to think beyond that.
I love my home; I'll just be glad when these clean-up chores are done.
