You put your GPS in
You put your GPS out
You put your GPS
And you shake it all about
Yes, those madcap Northwest Florida geocachers are at it again...this time doing the Hokey Pokey and turning themselves around for World Wide Flash Mob Day. What? You didn't know there was such a thing as World Wide Flash Mob Day? Join the club; I didn't either. And clearly we're behind the times because this was the tenth anniversary of the event.
Cachers from 42 different countries attended 556 events although I'm sure only a few chose to do the Hokey Pokey as their flash mob. Pity too...it's such a fun little dance.
My roommate claims this may well be his first experience doing the Hokey Pokey as he does not remember doing it on any prior occasion. Obviously, he didn't spend every Friday night at the local skating rink where we turned ourselves around with wheels under our feet. I thought that's what all junior high students did...I certainly did. There wasn't a mall, we couldn't drive and we were too young for dancing at "The Cage," our local youth center. Skating was about it and the Hokey Pokey was as much a regular as the spotlight on the mirrored ball for couples skate. Ahhhh...the memories!
No longer a Hokey Pokey virgin, he has a pretty little World Wide Flash Mob coin to his name along with some dance experience. There were forty or so of his geocaching comrades who participated in today's event. They did the traditional lyrics/steps through the first time (the one in which Wayne participated) and then they did it again with an added verse to put their GPS in and that's the part he filmed. Not everyone got in the video but you'll get the idea.
And if you're like me, you'll now be singing this song for days. That is, after all, what it's all about.
