It would be easy to complain about the cold. It's second nature for us humans, isn't it...fuss when it's too hot and then again when it's too cold. The reality of it is, however, that there are so many areas of the country that have it worse than we do that my complaints would ring rather hollow. Let me just say though that I didn't move to Florida to endure days when the thermometer struggled to reach a temperature above freezing. Brrrr!
Let's focus instead on my goofy family. I was doing a little tidying up on my phone and came across a couple of photos that Brad had shared with me. They were taken at Christmas on his cell phone and I forgot about them when I was posting Christmas pictures. The story they tell is not so much Christmas as it is how this family of mine all love to cut up. They come by it honestly...from my dad's side of the family.
I've mentioned before that Kayla's college experience includes pledging to Phi Mu. It's perfect for her. While she'll hit the books and make good grades no matter what, she's all about the social side of education so a sorority is a great match for her. She's expanded her circle of friends, become involved in some new charitable work and will make great memories to round out her time in college.
She had some Phi Mu apparel on her Christmas list and Grandma was happy to fulfill that request. And because there are opportunities for parents to participate in various sorority activities, she bought both Brad and Melissa Phi Mu shirts. Melissa's proclaims she's a Phi Mu Mom; Brad's identifies him as a Phi Mu Dad. Always thinking, Kayla even selected colors that coordinated but were slightly different from the ones she'd chosen and which she thought matched up with her respective parents.
And after the presents were opened, Kayla wanted a picture of all of them in their shirts. I suspect it was going on some form of social media or perhaps the sorority's own webpage but that's just a guess. Would I take one, Kayla asked? She didn't have to ask twice; I jumped at the chance. I'm all for a family photo, especially when they're all dressed so cute. Here's what I got:
Nice, huh? Well, it went downhill from there. Soon they were trying to get all three of them in the frame of Brad's cell phone camera. When that wasn't working, they passed it off to me to snap another picture of the three of them together.
Do you think they could stand so nicely and smile so sweetly for a second shot? No way. Their inner goofballs just had to come out.
You've got to admit there's much more personality in the second one but I like the sweet faces in the first two. I suspect it's the second one, however, that made the appearance on social media.
The fun didn't stop there, however. I got my nice photo of Brad and Kayla in front of the tree which I posted here. It was soon followed by this one, again on Brad's cell phone:
"Selfie" was the word of the year for 2013 and this one proves these two are hopeless goofballs. But I wouldn't change them for the world.
